Edward Haslett, you wrote:

I see, to criticize science you must be a scientist.  It seems modern science fits the model of the inquisition quite readily.

Spoken like a true uninformed zealot.  To criticize any group of individuals who are actively engaged in a common discipline such as biology, cosmology, genetics, anthropology, geology, or even theology, my field, one should at least possess a certain amount of knowledge in it.

Would you walk up to the Golden Gate Bridge and criticize its construction if you knew nothing about engineering?  Would you feel competent enough to lead tours through an art gallery if you never took an art course?  Would you allow someone to perform brain surgery on your daughter if they had no credentials as a licensed physician?  Would you hire a lawyer to defend you in a criminal case who had never attended law school?

How much do you know about the formulation of the flu vaccine that you allow someone to stick in your arm?  Scientists concocted that vaccine.  Did you know that?

Only those who make the claims of science can criticize the claims of science.  All that does is make me distrust science even more.  A closed Cabal is unlikely to be the sort of group that allows for truth-finding.  If science is not open to criticism from outside of science, it is merely another fundamentalist religion which no one should trust.  Maybe you can tell me, why should we believe that someone is giving us the truth, when they claim they are above criticism except for criticism by those who agree with them in the first place?

Scientists don't all agree.  Scientific theories change through time with new information.  That's the beauty of the scientific method.  It produces new theories and improvements in old theories.  Darwin's theory may have limitations and vulnerabilities.  Believe me, if any scientist can find credible evidence that disproves evolution, you will hear about it.
