It is the exact opposite of critical thinking.
It is a mode of argumentation that relies on
a systematic misrepresentation of the "other
side". This is dishonest, or so sloppy as to
be academically unacceptable. But the
propenents call it critical thinking. And when
they are called on this, ad misercordium (if
I got the spelling right), how dare you beat
up on me for challenging the status quo. This
is an informal logical fallacy. Hardly critical
thinking.
(Sarah, who was poll-watching for a candidate
who unfortunately lost last night, and a member
of the texans for gutting science education was
hanging around my polling place -- my
precinct, and not his -- smearing my candidate,
trying to convince us to leave and stop
supporting her, and smearing the majority
of the Texas State Board of education to
other pollwatchers. I am annoyed, to say the
least.)
PS. Montgomery County (texas) Christian
coalition sent an email to her contacts, with
Chapter leader, Christian coalition on the
bottom in my -- not even her own -- district.
She also fairly aggresively supported a
candidate in her District. A representative
from National said he would look into it,
however, I think the more complaints about
this matter will help.
This is outrageous. The very people who
complain that they are not being treated
fairly are bullies, plain and simple. As well,
they are visible Christians, and wear it out
on their sleeve, which is a poor Christian
witness, IMNSHO.
Please contact me off the list if you would like
more information on these matters.
