        OTOH one can hold (as many critical Christians do) that the Bible differs in
significant ways from other religious texts, not because of pre-critical ideas about
inerrancy or infallibility but because of the history & person - Jesus - to which it
bears witness & which it interprets.
        Which is to say that it isn't necessary to insist upon such ideas of inerrancy,
or the belief that all the narratives of scripture are accurate history, in order to
hold that the Bible is in an important sense unique. & dropping those ideas does not
mean that the Bible is at the same level as other religious texts.
