Wally, There are cases where one can say, "I am right and you are wrong."
Most such areas are in the realm of science. To claim that the earth is
flat is simply wrong. To claim that the sky is pink with purple polka dots
is simply wrong. To claim that the earth and humanity is 6000 years old, is
simply wrong based upon all available observational evidence. To act as if
there is a possibility of the YECs being correct would be as silly as acting
as if it is possible that we do have a pink sky with purple polka dots.
I agree with you that there is a difference between the laity and the YEC
leaders, but the laity have an obligation as well as the leaders not to get
duped or to dupe others. How you get them to believe what they don't want
to believe is a real mystery.
