>>If Jesus were God as well as human, then why would he
believe something that is not true, regardless of what was written in
scripture? >>
The answer to this is contained in the doctrine of omniscience. Those who
hold to this necessarily must insist that Jesus the human was
all-knowing. A time traveler from 2003 AD would be able to discuss
quantum mechanics with him. Etc.
But there is no evidence from scripture that points to this. If our time
traveler were to have a discussion with Jesus the 3 month old infant,
would he hear anything more profound than "mama?" Or with Jesus the 8
year old -- more than childish words? Or with Jesus at Gethsemene -- did
he know exactly what was about to happen? If so, why did he ask for an
alternate future? Are there scriptures that indicate that in certain
instances he did NOT know something? Of course.
Jesus the human was a product of his times, accepting the folk science
and all that goes with it. If he had not, would he have been listened to?
Yet we affirm, as Christians, that Jesus was also "God in the flesh."
This is a mystery.
