>In the past day or two, someone (I've forgotten who) has declared that Adam and Eve must be a myth or an analogy. I have pondered this long in my heart and believe that Adam and Eve must have been two very real people. The Bible clearly states in the New Testament that by one man sin entered the world and by one Man the world might be saved. (Romans 5) If Adam and Eve were a myth or an idealistic story then Romans would not be true. <

Although such passages as Romans 5 make it easier to regard them as historical individuals (the interpretaiton that I favor), this does not rule out symbolic interpretations of many details of the Genesis account. To take an extreme example, I do not know of any conservative commentator who does not take "he shall crush your head and you shall crush his heel" symbolically rather than literally. (Ironically, the literal interpretation would come from someone dismissing the story as a myth about herpetophobia.)

Of courthe Adam and Eve would actually be mythter and myththith, not myth.
