Thanks Glenn, this is very interesting. I'll try to find the reference
my next trip to the library. In the meantime, if you see anything
linking this venting to marine blooms I'd appreciate that info also.

Looks like those "noxious chemicals that come out of volcanoes" may not
be so bad after all, at least in some instances.
