Unless he was merely using the allegory of the flood as an illustration. His
main point is not the historicity of the flood itself but the effect of the
flood, separating the good and the bad. He spoke in many parables. The preceding
text and following text include many illustrations; the fig tree, the ten
girls, the trusty servant, etc.
