Or their self-esteem. Suppose my friend Gish became aware of the frauds
of ICR (he is older than I am). The tendency to suppress this knowledge,
to protect what he has been arguing about these 30 or so years, would be
overwhelming. In short, he would fool himself first.
For a person to encounter an argument that says they have wasted their
life in a vain cause would psychologically be too great a hurdle to
overcome.
