The question of what issues are held most dearly by YE proponents is most appropriate. I am organizing the fall meeting for the Eastern PA ASA section for Nov 8th. We will be having a panel DISCUSSION (read: NOT DEBATE) on interpretations of Genesis and science. We hope to have that rare event of discussion between TEs, YEs, and OEs without excommunication.

From my point of view, this is mainly an educational venture aimed for those outside the ASA rather than opening new ground for those inside. I have had my share of not so pleasant experiences with other Christians who cannot conceive of anyone remaining a believer and accepting anything but a young earth/universe as taught by ICR or AIG or... A thoughtful explanation of the various positions would go a long way.

There are issues (like original sin and a real/physical Adam/Eve) that are held deeply and should be addressed with respect and not casually dismissed.

Pray for our group, as we have had a hard time getting a YE spokesman (whom we know good things about) - (I realize that there are those of us who are also not always patient or polite either.)

Put yourself in the common pew and think: what are the primary issues that divide us ?
