In post http://www.calvin.edu/archive/asa/200307/0109.html I misread Debbie's affirmation that the connection between the Number 5 and Life is strengthened by the creation of Life on the Fifth Day as a denial of said point. She had written:
>The fact that the 'promise' of the fifth commandment is long life and that
life was created on the fifth day does add to the significance of 'five'.
My misreading of this line led to the following unnecessary comment:
>This is the problem of discussing the meaning of Numbers before laying some sort of foundation. When you say it does not "add to the significance of five" I am forced to ask "what then does?"
I hope this serves to remind us all how easy it is to err, so we will sincerely question the writer before wasting time trying to make "debate points" by jumping all over simple typos and misreadings. (Not that I'm saying anyone is doing this ... I'm just taking this opportunity to remind us all of an important point).
