The same irony has struck me in the accusations of scientism made by
YEC advocates. Disregarding fundamental religious differences (i.e.,
non-Christian versus Christian) in favor of accepting those with
similar scientific views does not indicate that theology has
priority. Likewise, anyone who treats the end of giving purportedly
scientific support to YEC or ID as sufficient to justify the means of
lying, shoddy work, unjustified claims, etc. has placed science above
theology. Not all YEC or ID advocates fall into this, but it is
common.
