D. Fischer has researched the term "fountains of the deep.">>
In Dick's book he argues that "fountains of the great Deep" does not refer to
"great, oceanic, water-spewing volcanoes" as global Flood theorists interpret
them. He is absolutely right; and this is an important point. He then argues
from Gen 2:6 and Near Eastern usage that "fountains of the deep" refers to
irrigation. However, I think it is a misreading of his argument to think he
is saying the "fountains of the great deep" are themselves irrigation canals.
His references to Gen 2:6 which speaks of water coming up out of the earth
and his quote "Below the fountain of the deep was stopped [that the flood
rose not at the source]" both show that the fountains of the deep are just
that, fountains which bring up water from "the source" (the great Deep).
Then as the water pours out on the ground, it is fed into irrigation canals.
This is in agreement with the scholars I cited.
The important point here is that the water for the Flood was fresh water,
water for agriculture, which is why I think Dick emphasized irrigation
canals. He was trying to make the point that the water for the Flood was not
salt water, not a marine incursion of the Pacific or Atlantic or even the
Persian Gulf. And, this is correct.
