I think it just goes to show how much most people aren't really interested
in learning other perspectives, they mostly want to debate for the sake of
proving themselves to themself! (That is not said in any way to be rude or a
jab, only just an observation of most people of an intellectual bent.)
Recognizing it can help us all move past that, and towards greater
understanding. Nobody has to be bent on converting people to their belief
system (with the exception of teaching nonbelievers through love in action
of the wisdom of Christ and the Christian life) -- we do have the obligation
or duty to listen to other people's perspectives if we're going to engage in
dialogue with them, right?
