I have used special creation as a term to refer to the belief that some organisms were created by extrordinary means, as opposed to accepting common descent by ordinary means. By this definition, there is a wide range of special creation, from
special creation of the first living cell and ordinary evolution from there through special creation of every species. This is roughly equivalent to not believing in macroevolution in popular usage. I do not know the origin of the term.
