I had mentioned earlier about Harold Jeffreys being credited with the
idea that any set of data could be explained by an infinitude of theories
and someone asked for the reference.

The claim is made by George Schlesinger, professor of philosophy at the U
of North Carolina, on page 92 of Jeff Jordan's book GAMBLING ON GOD
(1994).
