The fact is that I give the biblical creation narratives a great deal of
weight, not as cryptic chronicles of what-happened-and-when in the
Creation's formational history, but as confessions that God is the One and
Only Creator that has given being to the entire universe; that nothing
visible on/in/above the earth is a god to be feared/placated; that we are
creatures privileged to have the capacity for self-awareness and
God-awareness; that we are accountable for what we do and say.............
    The list goes on. >>

No, I didn't mean to depict your view of Genesis as "fluff," and I am sorry
that my words may have conveyed that.__What you say about it is true,
(although_how you get "that we are creatures privileged to have the capacity
for self-awareness and God-awareness" out of Genesis is a bit of a stretch).
In my view, however, what you have said is insufficient. To reject any hints
of what may be inferred from it about the process of creation seems to me to
be rather arbitrary since the first chapters of Genesis are about beginnings.
But since I am no OT scholar by any measure, I am content to let the
    discussion rest here.

    Best to you,

    Bob
