proper functioning of creation? Surely there is no need for the moon to
have 4 billion years of dust on it in order for creation to properly
function. What is the function of isotope ratios in rocks? What about
distant supernovas? What about annual layers in ice cores (even if the
ice "needed" to be deep, the layering would not be needed)?
Does Gosse claim that *all* signs of age are in the category of things
that needed to be that way in order for creation to function? If so, I
think I've given 4 examples (none of which were known in Gosse's day)
that say his argument cannot stand. If not, how does he deal with the
signs of age/history that are not needed or even relevant to the creation
being fully functioning and mature?"
As you note -- Gosse did not deal with these, not only because they were
unknown but because,
as a good scientist, he knew well the boundaries of his own expertise.
Whether someone could write a similar book today, and deal with your
(excellent) examples
above, I don't know. I do know it would be a formidable task. If I were a
YEC, I'd take it
as a challenge to do so. The fact that none have tried (ASAIK) indicates
to me that
my friend Gish's arguments are not really to be taken very seriously.
As I told Dr. Gish in 1988, when I bought him, Henry Morris and, I think,
Ken Ham
lunch in Dallas, I gave their arguments a fair (I thought) shot by
attending one of ICRs
three or four day "immerse" seminars. At that time, while I was an OEC, I
figured
I had to give them a chance to persuade me. I guess that at that point in
my life I still considered
the YEC claims to be a live option. After assimilating the materials from
that seminar, it ceased to be,
although I still claim friendship with Duane. Yes -- I still get ACTS &
FACTS.
