I didn't realize Bill Cobern was lurking on this list until his question a
few days ago. Just by coincidence I was then reading a thoughtful article of
his which is available on the Web (at least for a while) as a downloadable
    pdf file:

Cobern, W.W., 2000, The nature of science and the role of knowledge and
    belief: Science and Education, v.9, p. 219-246

    is at http://kapis.www.wkap.nl/sampletoc.htm?0926-7220+9+3+2000

The content will be familiar to many on this list but Bill does a nice job of
pulling it all together, and even gets in a plug for ASA. There's also some
insights I appreciated, such as seeing E.O. Wilson as the current
    philosophical incarnation of C.P.Snow.

Check it out; it's worth a look (IMHO).
