We are all deeply in debt to Glenn for his detailed coverage of the Baylor
conference. I share his regret for the decision to pull the plug--or to
take steps that may lead to it being pulled--on the Polanyi Institute. If
they can pull of conferences of this apparent quality, they need to exist.
I want to insure readers that Christianity can answer Stephen Weinberg very
well, in my view. Last spring in DC I heard John Polkinhorne do exactly
that, responding to Weinberg in a "debate" format featuring two main papers
with informal exchanges afterword. I didn't keep my own Morton-style notes
in computer form, after I printed them out in hard copy. If I had, I would
attach them here. However, I will say two further things. First, partly my
notes are used in an article I wrote for Zygon, commenting on Polkinhorne,
that will appear in December. Second, much of what he said is based on a
book I have already recommended strongly in this forum, and now recommend
especially to Glenn: Belief in God in an Age of Science.
