An article in Terra Nova a couple of years ago advocated the scenario of
oceanic impact roughly 10,000 years ago causing widespread coastal
flooding, accounting for worldwide flood stories. Some of their more
important physical evidence was questioned in replies in the next number or
so. If I recall correctly, they were putting emphasis on some of the
stories from other cultures as evidence for an impact. Like the recent
book advocating the Black Sea filling as the Flood, they viewed the Genesis
account as one of many myths preserving a grain of truth. I do not
remember more details, but that might have some useful information towards
this discussion if someone wishes to pursue it.
