This thread has turned out to be self referential. The joke which I mangled
actually was:

When you find out you don't know what's going on, you get a B.S.
When you find out your classmates don't know what's going on, you get a
M.S.
When you find out your professors don't know what's going on, you get a
Ph.D.

Have I earned a B.S. in comedy?
