The Science of Sports

Currently, only the page for Bicycling Science has any content.  The other pages will be developed later (but not until late-2009) mainly by providing links to selected high-quality resources on the web.

Do you want to help?  I'll do some development for the web-pages you see below (*) but much of their content, quality, and timing will depend on finding people who are expert in each area — or who are interested and want to become more expert — to search for educational resources on the web and write links-pages describing these resources and summarizing the basic principles for the area.   /   * Sports and Sport-Science have been a long-term interest for me (at one point I almost became a grad student in kinesiology, to study the physics, physiology, and pedagogy of high jumping) but now I have limited time;  other areas of the website have higher priority, so development of this area has been delayed, and currently it has more IOUs than content.

Even though the pages below are labeled "The Science of..." we recognize that much more is involved, that for most of these a more accurate label would be "The Art & Science (including Psychology) and Drama & Business..."

    • The Science of Bicycling has some interesting content now — about the mystery of Floyd Landis (was he chemically supercharged in the 2006 Tour?) and more, plus (as a non-science bonus) some History of the Tour de France — and it will be further developed in late 2009.

    • The Science of Nutrition - this won't be developed for awhile, probably not until late 2009.
    • The Science of Running - currently, Running Tempo & Music Tempo is the beginning of more content that will be here in Summer-and-Fall 2009.
    • The Science of Rowing - this won't be developed for awhile, probably not until late 2009.
    • The Science of Swimming - this won't be developed for awhile, probably not until at least 2010.
    • The Science of Competition - this won't be developed for awhile, probably not until late 2009.
    • The Science of Sports-Games - this won't be developed for awhile, probably not until late 2009;  eventually it will have pages for football (global & American), basketball, baseball, tennis, hockey,...
    • The Science of Sports Medicine - this won't be developed for awhile, probably not until late 2009.

    • Using Sports in Education, as illustrative examples and real-world applications — for science (in the areas above), math, and engineering, psychology & sociology, business & economics,... — that will provide educational motivation for students who find these topics more interesting in the context of athletics. - this won't be developed for awhile, but eventually it could be a major area

    • And other areas will be added later.

THREE TYPES OF LINKS in this website for Whole-Person Education:
An ITALICIZED LINK keeps you inside a page, moving you to another part of it.
Above, a NON-ITALICIZED LINK is page-adding, opening a new page in a new window
Below, a NON-ITALICIZED LINK is page-replacing, opening a new page in this window
