This website
is for everyone who likes to think. It's for learners and teachers. Of
course, this includes you, since each of us is a learner, a self-teacher,
and a teacher of others.

Is harmony possible? Some people — perhaps you? — think the website's title (embracing science and faith) is impossible because science and Christian faith are at war, with inherent "science vs religion" conflict. A metaphor of "warfare between science and religion" is dramatic, and it can be useful for anti-Christian rhetoric. This colorful portrayal of history has exerted a powerful influence on popular views about relationships between science and religion, but it is oversimplistic and inaccurate, and is rejected by modern scholars. We'll explain why, because we want to replace misconceptions with understanding.
What? Our goals are to help you enjoy the exciting adventure of learning and thinking, explore the fascinating world created by God, and grow in faith. We want to increase your knowledge and stimulate your thinking, while you're learning Christian perspectives on relationships between nature and science, scripture, theology, and religion. We want to help you live by faith every day, and wisely use what you learn from "the two books of God" in nature and scripture. And if you're a teacher, we hope you'll become more effective in motivating your students and helping them improve their understanding and thinking skills.
How? This website is a resource for self-education, for busy people with "too much to do and not enough time." We know you don't want to waste valuable time — it's the stuff your life is made of — so our goal is to help you learn a lot in a little time. For each of many interesting topics, you can learn about a variety of views in our Multiple Positions website that gives you a Quick Education in two stages: first, introductory pages quickly show you a "big picture" overview, then we'll help you explore what you want in more depth. And we offer Help for Teachers.
Who? We're
the Science Education Commission of the American
Scientific Affiliation, which is a community of scientists — and
engineers, and scholars in fields related to science, such as the history
and philosophy of science, and science education — who are Christians.
