The clear teaching of Christ is that the gospel is good news which
is to be proclaimed, and that "whosoever will, let him take the water

I am currently reading Desmond & Moore's biography of Darwin and
I can understand why a lot of people embraced Darwin's theory
as liberating them from an oppressive State-established Anglican
Church. However, IMHO they threw out the baby with the
bathwater!

This is why I regard tolerance for differing beliefs of highest importance.
The very best ideas can become oppressive--as religions have at times, and as
materialism, as exemplified by Neo Darwinism, has now become--when they
achieve unquestioned acceptance by a powerful majority. Fifty years ago,
some people tried to prevent evolution from being taught in schools. The
court battles today are to prevent anything but Neo Darwinism from being
taught in the schools. Both are motivated by fear of competing ideas.
