First of all, the commandment is "Thou shalt not murder". The Hebrew word
used says premeditated and intentional murder. There is a separation between
murder and putting someone to death as punishment for certain wrongdoings.
God ordered Moses (and the Levites) to punish the Israelites for creating
the golden calf and worshipping it.

I agree. If you, or anyone else wishes to pursue this further please email
me privately. In fact, PLEASE send notes on what you think are
contradictions. It makes me learn the Bible better! (a good thing in my eyes
if not yours)
