Sure it is legitimate. It is what YEC's get accused of doing all the time.
But the strength of science lise in its ability to isolate variables and
thus to come up with interpretations that have empirical backing, rather
than just inference, as would be the case in point. I am not suggesting
you do not know this, and am not interested in discussing this further (I
will be gone for a week), I just wanted to clarify my original unclear
assertion.
