Vernon,
your explanation of the development of equal temperament
is admirably accurate in its brevity. It is also unneccesary for your
number-games to work, as those are solely based on the
institution of a 12-step scale, rather than on scientifically
justified or aesthetically vigorous divisions in the spiraling
continuum of pitch. The number-magic you point out will work
with any system that returns to its starting point after 12 iterations.
