The prior discussion concerning the Genesis meaning of "kind" led me to
recall another similar situation:

Hugh Ross (local flood position) presented an interesting point in his
training tapes:

If Noah took representatives of only animal "kinds" meaning "genius" or
"family", then to produce all the species over again in the several
thousand years since the flood would require evolution at unheard of
rates.

Ross believes that not only was the flood local, God had Noah take only
those local animals that would be required for Noah to use immediately
after the flood, before the more remote animals would migrate back.
According to Ross, the Levitical law makes distinctions between animals
that are punished for man's sins and those that are not. Off the top of
my head, I can think of several examples: (1)Joshua is commanded to
destroy all the sheep, goats and cattle in Cannan, (2)presumably God
destroyed all the animals in Sodom, (3)an animal was to be destroyed in
the case of bestiality or death of a man.
