It doesn't make God a liar but it does assume that it was God's intention
(not just that we interpret his world that way) that organisms have the
appearance of common ancestry. I hear few people go on to grapple with
coming up with any theological justification for such a action. I still
say that the appeance of age is used as an escape hatch to avoid addressing
difficult data.
