Got my new issue of _Science_ today (July 4, 1997) and on pages 34-39 there
is a special news report entitled "Developing a New View of Evolution"
subtitled "Evolutionary and developmental biologists have joined forces to
create a new field, unraveling the mysteries of evolution by studying the
genes that control how an embryo develops".

Perhaps as a change of pace for the group, we could read this material and
discuss it--comments, questions for clarification, insights, critique, etc.
You can get to it on-line through http://www.sciencemag.org, although I
think you have to pay something to get access to the full articles.
