Gene: I think that this may appear circular, but I think any of us who have
lived in the world have some evidence from observation that "the heart of
man is desperately wicked" if not from our own experience with our wayward
hearts than from dealing with other people.
I believe that the heart of man is initially good only to be (potentially)
turned wicked by its interactions with society. But even the observation
you allude to could have been an observation made by those who wrote the
bible. A description of what they believed was happening.
