Glenn Morton in his web site has a good response to this.
In essence he points out God told Adam ("you are" not
you were but "you are - dust"). Gen 3:19 Strongs #6083
(aphar). I'd like to add:
Abraham said he was dust. Gen 18:27.
Jacob's descendants were called dust. Numbers 23:10.
Our bodies are dust. Ecc 12:7.
Glenn Morton points out two or three similarities between
our DNA and the DNA of gorillas. The human genome
project could supply one with hundreds of places where
humans have the exact same pseudogenes as gorillas and
other species. These pseudogenes are in the same locations
in many of the various species. One I'll mention is the
pseudogene which should be for L- gulonolactone oxidase.
If we had this enzyme we could manufacture vit- c like
most animal species. Unfortunately, we like guinea pigs,
gorillas, etc are unable to synthesize vit- c because the
gene to make L- gulonolactone oxidase is a pseudogene.
So far over 3.7 % of the genes decoded in the human
genome project have been identified as pseudogenes. Shortly,
hundreds of these pseudogenes will be shown to occur in
the same place in various other species. One will be able to
accurately trace the record of evolving by the use of these
pseudogenes. In my opinion, the debate as to whether or not
humans evolved is almost over.
Science via pseudogenes will be able to show the lineage of
evolving for humans as well as other species. I now believe
our traditional understanding that Adam was made from the
type of dust one finds on the side of a dirt road should be
replaced with the understanding that Adam was made from the
type of dust one sees when looking at a living body. I believe
Adam's parents were Mr. and Mrs. dust. Like Glenn I believe
this is in agreement with the Biblical text. I also believe
Eve was created from Adam's rib. I take that to mean Eve
didn't have a belly button but Adam did.
