I stand corrected by Art's suggestion that water is the main output from
carbonization. But there is still the question as to the quantity of CH4
and CO2 generated. The carbonization process is what we in the oil industry
depend upon to generate natural gas (mostly CH4; small ethane propane
etc.etc.) The even a garbage dump can produce methane in commerical
quantities.

I think the real issue in coal compression is still in the%C going into
the process and the % C coming out in the form of coal vs. gases.
