The very best I've ever read on this is Donald Bloesch, a highly respected
evangelical theologian (author of the two volume "Essentials of Evangelical
Theology"). He is writing a multi-volume systematic theology for InterVarsity
Press. His second volume, "Holy Scripture," is, IMO, brilliant. I'd start
there, because he deals directly with early Genesis and the genre of saga
history.

Secondarily, check out Clark Pinnock's "The Scripture Principle" (Harper &
Row).

These are two well-known names in the evangelical world and a good start for
you.
