This was my experience as well.

I don't have any quotes readily available, but I do have an anecdote. A few
years ago, a Christian colleague (Wayne Becker) was updating his text on
molecular biology (used by secular colleges) and the publishers requested
that he make it apparent in the book that "God is an unecessary hypothesis".
To this he wrote back a scathing letter and pointed out that the publishers
should be thankful that God did not consider them an unecessary hypothesis.
The text was published elsewhere.

An answer to this question should consider examples of Christian biologists
teaching evolution. Is this intrinsically atheistic?
