As a "card carrying member" (gasp) of the ACLU, I have to
challenge this assertion. Can you cite a source?

I do not agree with everything the ACLU does, but in
its main thrust, that of preserving free speech, I
have joined it to add my small voice in those actions.

Johnson, Reason in the Balance, p.223, quoting an article from the 8/14/93
LA Times:

"In the wake of the [Vista School Board] vote, American Civil Liberties
Union representatives stated that they are considering a lawsuit and will
sue immediately should any Vista teacher begin teaching biblical
creationism in the classroom."

If memory serves, the ACLU was also involved in the Louisiana *Edwards v.
Aguillard* case, but I don't have a specific reference at hand. Probably
Jim Bell could help here. You out there, Jim?
