Well, to be specific about what you claimed he said (I have no idea what
he really claimed), there were on average only 2 or so religious students
that didn't change their views. Of course, I don't know what that really
means. It could mean that only two, say YEC have changed their views to
OEC, or TE. Or even vice versa. If the direction of the change is
unimportant, yet there were lots of changes of views (in both directions),
I'd be proud about it too. It means the students participated and thought
about their views - which is the point of the thing anyway.

So, I think such classes are good for the students...
