Announcement of 1995-1996 Templeton Foundation Science & Religion
Course Program
_________________________________________________________________
Two years ago the John M. Templeton Foundation initiated a program
of awards to stimulate meaningful interaction between science and
religion in academic institutions worldwide. In the first year
of the award program 97 courses were each selected for $10,000.00
awards.
Courses came from Science departments, from Philosophy, Religion,
Theology, and History departments and from various interdisciplinary
programs. There were a total of 173 applicants, 36 of which came from
outside the United States.
This year teachers in academic institutions are again invited to develop
new courses on science and religion or to enlarge or extend existing
courses. Up to 100 awards will again be given, a total of $5,000.00
for the course manager(s) and $5,000.00 to the institution to support
the course.
We are seeking courses which are scholarly, balanced in their treatment
of scientific and theological perspectives and exploratory rather than
dogmatic.
There will be workshops early in 1996 at Berkley and Tallahassee in the
U.S. and at Oxford, England. I'll be pleased to send an information
packet to all who send me their address. Please post this as widely
as you wish.
