Folks,

Mark Phillips and Stephen Jones both asked about the journal
Science and Christian Belief. I became aware of the journal and
Jack Haas was kind enough to pass on some back copies so I could
get a feel for the journal. It is a fairly young journal (7
years) old that is interested in the interactions of Science and
Christianity. Its writers all seem to be evangelical and very
scholarly. In many ways I think it is the British equivalent of
Perspectives on Science and Christian Faith (the Journal of the
ASA. I am not sure of the current subscription price (that is in
my office and I am modeming from home on my IIgs), but the 1993
journal lists it as going for $37.20 or UK 12 pounds. The
address for subscriptions is given as Paternoster Periodicals,
Paternoster Press, 3 Mount Radford Crescent, Exeter EX2 4JW (I
assume great Britain). The journal appears to have two issues a
year. As I indicated, I was impressed by the thoughtful
scholarly content of the journal. I suspect most of the authors
are not young earth folks, but I saw some good criticisms of
Dawkins and some other secular evolutionists. It also seems to
have a large number of good book reviews.

Steven Jones also asked, " I am interested in such magazines re
science and Christianity. Phil Johnson also mentions "First
Things". Do you (or anyone) know if such magazines available on
the Internet, eg. through a Web page, etc?" While newspapers
are available on the Web I very much doubt if many journals which
depend on subscriptions for income will be, unless in a manner
which allows them to charge the reader. Even Christian journals
have to pay for themselves. Within the last 20 years in some
areas of science there has been a movement away from society
journals or journals like these that can be gotten for under $75
dollars to charging high commercial rates for journals. Sorry
about that but there are some journals in my own area that our
library could not afford to get. You pay several thousand
dollars for 4 issues of a journal. When you think of that paying
$30 ($55 for membership) is not a bad deal and I know some of
them struggle to stay in the black.
