I don't know that scientists have gotten to the point where they can
manipulate the genome to create new species, but pastoralists have been
turning lead into gold for 7,000 years (not enough evolutionary time for
speciation). Pastoralism is the basis of Judaism. Jacob breeds Laban's flocks
to be weaker (lead) while breeding his own to be stronger (gold).
