In addition to the points raised by Dave Siemens, the Bible declares
that our own efforts at theological discovery lead to idolatry,
meaninglessness, etc.
Paul cited but did not explicate the commission given in Genesis 1 as
justification for the idea that God has given the ability to figure
out scientific information for ourselves. In order to competently
rule over creation, we must be able to predict how it will respond to
our actions.
