There is an article in Science News today about tracking patterns of
evolution by analyzing the "skeletons of long-dead toddlers." This
    statement I find curious:

"Both Homo antecessor and Homo heidelbergensis shared
with modern humans a prolonged pattern of dental maturation,"
Bermudez de Castro says. This suggests that both species
were direct ancestors of H. sapiens, in his opinion.
