    << Dear All,

The current edition of Philosphy Now (March/April 2001) has an article by
Todd Moody of Jesuit St Joseph's University Philadelphia on 'Intelligent
     Design'

He makes a philosphical case as to why that the proponents of ID should be
heard and not ignored, even if they are not right in the end.

Unfortunately, the article is not on the web but details of the Journal can
be found at www.philosophynow.org or www.philosophynow.demon.co.uk

And on the other side of the coin, University of Wisconsin philosphers
Branden Fitelson, Christopher Stephens, and Elliott Sober ("How Not to Detect
Design--Critical Notice: William A. Dembski, The Design Inference": ,1999,
Philosophy of Science, v. 66, p. 472-488) conclude that "friends of Design
should shun the [design] Filter [of Dembski], not embrace it".

    They also say:
"In what follows, we will show that Dembski's account of design inference
is deeply flawed. Sometimes he is too hard on hypotheses of intelligent
design; at other times he is too lenient. Neither creationists, nor
evolutionists, nor people who are trying to detect design in nontheological
    contexts should adopt Dembski's framework".
