    It is generally referred to as the reversal of the magnetic field. There
    was a reversal at 780,000 years ago. The period prior to that is known as
    the Matuyama epoch in which all rocks were reversely magnetised to those of
    today. References available upon request. For those young-earth
    creationists who follow Barnes who says that a reversal is impossible, the
    sun reverses magnetism every 11 years. It is called the Hale cycle.
