At this moment I'm listening to Terry Gross on her public radio program
Fresh Air interviewing Karen Armstrong about Armstrong's books _The
Battle for God_ and _The History of God_. Ex-nun Armstrong challenges
Christian and other fundamentalists, and at this stage in her spiritual
development seems to posit an impregnable wall between
*subjective* religion and *trustworthy* science. Her litmus test for
religion is that it lead to compassion as opposed to belligerence.

As a non-scientist, I don't have the credentials or knowledge to speak
to the scientific questions involved, and my serious study of theology
took place over 20 years ago. Perhaps some of the rest of you would like
to contact Ms. Gross or Ms. Armstrong and introduce them to the work of
the ASA. I ask only that the contacts be informed (I haven't read either
book and don't have time to do so now), courteous, and respectful,
especially to fellow Christians with differing views on creation (Gal.
6:10). Ms. Gross broadcasts from Radio station WHYY in Philadelphia.

Another person who might benefit from similar contact is Jim Fleming,
host of "To the Best of Our Knowledge," c/o Wisconsin Public Radio, 821
University Ave, Madison, WI 53706. Please forgive me if some of you are
already in contact with these folks, but I see these as influential
    people in need of enlightenment.

    Thanks,
