Also the last 2/3 or so of last century. Tuomey (1848, The Geology of
South Carolina) claimed that differences between geology, with the evidence
for old earth and pre-human animal death, and theology had been resolved.
I think Buckland's tome on the issue of animal death and the Fall was also
in the 1840's. Sydney, 1866, likewise asserts that death resulting from
the Fall was solely human.
