The 30 July issue of Science contains, as its first letter to the editor, a
letter from Ken Touryan, a long-time member of ASA, who also attended the
annual meeting last weekend. He comments on an editorial by Stephen Jay
Gould (25 June p. 2087), in which he accused Gould of mixing science with
scientism -- something ASA members have long been trained to detect. This
letter was backed up by three more critical letters, including one from
David Hogg of the Institute for Advanced Study. Attaboy, Ken!
