David C. stated that:

>Wheat is already a hexaploid hybrid.

Am I correct in assuming that hexaploid means six copies of every
chromosome. (6 copies x 7 genes = 42). What is the function of so many
copies of a chromosome and which ones express traits - or do they all
function and sort of average out ?

Did the wheat become hexaploid during its hybridization process by simply
accumulating new genes from its distinct parent plants or did they
additional genes occur by simply duplicating existing genes ?
