Lewis was intentionally making use of some of elements medieval cosmology in his
space trilogy. He didn't reject the technical success of the modern scientific view but
objected to the idea that it simply made previous ways of looking at the world obsolete.
But note, e.g., that the picture of the planetary system ("the field of Arbol") in the
trilogy is heliocentric.
